“TASHA UNSCRIPTED” — Tasha Cobbs Leonard Releases 34-Track Live Album

Tasha Cobbs Leonard has released a 34-track live album titled Tasha Unscripted, her first full-length project to arrive through Motown Gospel and Capitol Christian Music Group. The collection is out now.

The album arrives with Cobbs Leonard holding a stack of industry hardware. She has won three Grammy Awards and 16 Stellar Awards, and Billboard named her Gospel Artist of the Decade. Those honors frame the release, but the project itself points in a different direction. The title suggests a looser, more spontaneous approach, and the 34-song tracklist runs long by contemporary gospel standards.

Cobbs Leonard built her name on live recordings. Her 2013 breakout, Grace, was recorded live and carried the single "Break Every Chain," which became a church staple and crossed over to mainstream gospel playlists. A decade later, she continues to treat the live format as her primary creative space. Tasha Unscripted extends that pattern, capturing her in a setting built for the congregational energy her music depends on.

The project is a major release for Motown Gospel, the label that has become the dominant force in the genre since its founding in 2013. Capitol Christian Music Group handles distribution, giving the album the same pipeline used by artists like for KING & COUNTRY and Hillsong Worship. The partnership places Cobbs Leonard at the center of the two companies' gospel strategy.

Cobbs Leonard's catalog has consistently performed well on the Billboard charts. Her 2018 album Heart. Passion. Pursuit. debuted at No. 1 on the Top Gospel Albums chart, and her 2022 project Hymns did the same. The new release arrives with similar expectations, though the label has not yet confirmed first-week projections.

The announcement of the album came with little advance warning. Motown Gospel and Capitol Christian Music Group confirmed the release date in a statement, positioning Tasha Unscripted as a direct follow-up to her recent work. The project was recorded before a live audience, though the specific venue and session dates have not been disclosed.

Cobbs Leonard has spent the past year in a cycle of touring and recording. She headlined several major gospel festivals in 2024 and appeared as a featured guest on tracks by other artists in the genre. Her influence extends beyond gospel into contemporary Christian music and mainstream R&B, where her vocal style has drawn comparisons to the church-trained singers who crossed over in earlier decades.

The 34 tracks on Tasha Unscripted include both new material and reworked versions of songs from her catalog. The full tracklist has been published with the album, and it shows a mix of uptempo praise songs and slower worship ballads. Cobbs Leonard is credited as a songwriter on most of the tracks, continuing a pattern she has maintained since her debut.

The album's release caps a busy period for Motown Gospel. The label has signed several new artists over the past year and has been expanding its roster beyond the traditional gospel sound. Cobbs Leonard remains its most decorated act, and the new project gives the label a flagship release for the current cycle.

Cobbs Leonard's live performances have become a defining part of her career. Her concerts regularly feature extended worship segments, impromptu singing, and moments where she steps away from the microphone to let the congregation carry the melody. The title Tasha Unscripted appears to lean into that side of her work, presenting her as an artist who operates best without a fixed set list.

The album is available across streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. Physical copies have also been released, with CD and vinyl editions shipping this week. The vinyl pressing marks the first time Cobbs Leonard has released one of her live albums in that format.

Cobbs Leonard has not announced a supporting tour for the album. Her schedule for the remainder of the year includes festival appearances and church dates, but no full-scale arena run has been confirmed. The label has said only that more announcements are coming.

Tasha Unscripted is now streaming in full.
